David Stewarts writes: >There is a Hugh the drover in my local second hand CD shop. Should I get >it? I have VW's Symphonies save number 8, songs, and a few other bits. I will admit that I have a soft spot for 'Hugh the Drover'. The plot is a bit silly for our modern sensibilities, but at least it's not a silly as 'Gilda in a Bag'. (Credit for that alternate title for 'Rigoletto' goes to another Lister who prefers anonymity.) The music is rather more in the popular vein than the symphonies. RVW was no fool; he knew that people in the theatre want hummable melodies and understandable words. Go for it. Scott Morrison
