Hi All,
    Actually, the WHO reference on Infant Feeding lists formula as 4th
with 1 being breastfeeding, 2 being mother's own milk given via another
way (bottle, cup, etc.) and 3 being another mother's milk (donor milk,
wet nursing, etc.).
    As has been discussed often on LactNet - many mothers (and some
HCPs) don't even consider the list above or that #3 is a
consideration/viable option. As a personal e-mail I received stated,
many mothers don't even know that there is a difference between human
milk and formula.
    We have a way to go before formula is seen as a 4th consideration in
the feeding of infants in the US - (IMHO) I'd be jumping for joy if it
were seen consistantly as number 2!
