Just have time for a quick post, but this one really caught my eye. I love reading Mothering magazine and appreciate the alterntive view points that are offered on many subjects - many of which I agree with. However, although I have not read the article on AIDS, I have a feeling that it goes along the lines of the vaccine controversy - since we don't know everything about it yet and haven't worked out a foolproof testing/vaccination program, therefore the whole theory can be in doubt, etc, etc, (not to offend anyone, although I'm sure I will, it is similar, to me, of the creation vs. evolution debate, speaking in a scientific not religious context - faith is personal and obviously doesn't need to be based on any science whatsoever). I cannot believe that there is really any doubt at all in the huge majority of medical and scientific circles that AIDS is caused by HIV and similar viruses. How exactly it is transmitted in all cases (ie breastfeeding) is still open to investigation, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I will indeed read this article carefully, but I caution readers to be suspicious when "respected scientists" or "known authorities" are cited as supporting decidedly non-mainstream theories. This is occasionally an accurate statement, but more often I see it used to support otherwise upsupportable ideas (think Ezzo). Just some quick thoughts. Need to read more before spouting off any further. This whole AIDS thing is so difficult we must be careful which directions we go off on.
