I have a 29 yo mom with a nursing 10 month old. She needs one of her heart valves replaced. She is looking for info on anyone else who has been through or helped someone through this procedure. I was able to help her check out the meds she'll be on (thanks to Dr. Hale's little red book!) and they're OK. The problem is the surgeon has flatly told her he will not do the surgery if she is still breastfeeding. He gives her no medical reason for this, but has said that the baby is 10 months and can certainly be on a bottle and that after the surgery she won't be able to breastfeed anyway (no reason given of course). This man is the only one in the state to do the valve replacement using the "Ross" procedure. So---any ideas for her? (I can just hear Dr. Jack now...).
