> Mum went to see her G.P yesterday who prescibed a combined pill for > contraception and told Mum that it will help her to wean her > daughter. Val, the combined pill can be given at this age (21 months) because it has so little effect on lactation. Lactation is so well established that it will not be effected by the oestrogen usually. The child will receive some hormones, but it is of less concern because the child weighs more than a young infant and is also having other food. If the mother was pregnant again, the child would receive higher levels of hormones. So, I would say if may help her wean or it may not. Lisa in Melbourne.
