Jay, I just read your message asking why premies are not fed more often.
Have been following this thread with amazement, and can identify with your
frustration.  I visit in local private hospital NICU quite often.  It is
rare to hear a baby crying.  I conclude it must be a) because mothers are
encouraged to care for babies at all times except from 10 p m - 6 a m, b)
"large" premies, over 1500g are fed every 3 hours (own mother's EBM as soon
as the mother's milk comes in, no additives except Vit D) and c) smaller
ones are fed every 2 hours. It's nice.  The only difficulty is waking them
all up when the paediatricians want them to learn to BF!
