Remember a few monthes ago when we here in Ohio posted about our Breastfeeding Rally demonstration in front of Wal-Mart. The Ohio mom who was asked to breastfeed her baby in the restroom or a dressing room of the Lebanon Wal-mart heard this morning from the Civil Rights Commision. Who she filed a complaint with several months ago. The Commision has presented an offer to Wal-Mart. Under Item #2 In exchange for the promises of the person claiming to be agrieved, (The MOM) and the Ohio Civil Rights Commision contained in this agreement, Respondent agrees to ALLOW THE PERSON CLAIMING TO BE AGRIEVED TO BREAST FEED HER CHILD IN ALL RESPONDENT'S FACILITIES OF PUBLIC ACCOMODATION WHERE THE MOTHER IS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED TO BE. RESPONDENT AGREES NOT TO SEGREGATE HER WITHIN ALL RESPONDENT'S FACILITES OF PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION. RESPONDENT AGREES TO TREAT THE PERSON CLAIMING TO BE AGRIEVED LIKE ALL OTHER PATRONS. UNDER #5: THE PERSON CLAIMING TO BE AGRIEVED AND RESONDENT AGREE THAT THIS AGREEMENT MAY BE USED AS EVIDENCE IN A SUBSEQUENT PROCEEDING IN WHICH ANY OF THE PARTIES ALLEGE A BREACH OF THIS AGREEMENT. (This agreement is with Wal-Mart Corp, not just the local store. Which should impact Moms & Babes nation wide) I felt that the entire offer was to lenghthy to put here. Wal-mart has yet to sign this. It was sent to them last Friday. But they have ten days. Interestingly one of our other interested LC's in the area got a call this evening from a member of the Board of Directors because of a letter that was sent by a local Mom complaining about Wal-marts breastfeeding policy or lack there of one. He said he was unaware of this incident and was appalled that this had happened. More news to come as this story developes. Needless to say , this decision was not come to with out in put from us over the last few weeks of negotiations. Dee Keith , IBCLC< LLLL< mother of 10 Breastfed Children. Cincinnati
