The woman who leaks milk all the time needs to have her prolactin checked, as well as her TSH, as she most likely has a pituitary adenoma. This may give her no problem in the short run, but they can grow locally and affect vision, and/or affect other hormones. If this is the case, or even if her prolactin is high but there is no tumor, she might be able to use bromocriptine after weaning to stop milk production. I'd suggest she discuss this with her family physician or ob and/or an endocrinologist. -- Anne Montgomery, M.D. [log in to unmask] St.Peter Hospital Family Practice Residency
