>Is nipple bacterial infection common in the presence of on-going oral thrush >in baby and possibly nipple thrush in mom? Is this a missing piece in >some of our unresolving nipple/breast yeast cases? YES ,YES, yeast and bacteria are long time bzmbdys ! Although USUALLY yeast follows bacteria in symptomology. Two thigs I learned as a fledgling LC one while my husband rec'd his bone marrow traansplant for leukemia 5 years ago is that YEAST and MOLDS ARE EVERY WHERE on our bodies and in contacta with common everyday items foods and newsprint books walls door knobs, kids, etc. etc. its usually only a problem for the immunocompromised ie. cancer patients, NICU babes BUT ANY ONE who is immuno-stressed (my word) ie new babies & moms who've both just encounterd "life altering events such as birth" and more commonly in our local OB care have rec'd PROPHYLACTIC ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY for a myriad of things (maybe 1 DOSE) and the mother is unaware she even rec'd this dose. IT is VERY common for all moms with operative deliveries do get 1 dose and asking the mother if she knew she denies it (7 out of 10 times) I just thought I was getting an IV. I find these moms who respond to yeast and bacterial therapy also encountered some resolved level of nipple trauma or break in the skin. At LLL physicians conference at Hilton Head in 1993 when we discussed thrush, several astute practitioners said they almost always treat thrush concurrently with antibiotics like Keflex and get better results, but most had not used anything more than topical treatment for thrush (only a few had used Diflucan). SPEAKING OF WHICH has any one seen documentation re: use of Diflucan in postpartum moms of newborns and what is the most common protocol that has worked with the least amount of side effects....??????????? Why is it that some questions get answered rapid fire and some questions never stimulate a response at all ?????? I'm still in need of protocols related to Diflucan use and Reglan use even if NOT FDA APPROVED it's being used somewhere with good results why do we keep so many secrets ? is it the ever present lurking of the attorneys or fear of our own shadows or do some things fare better hidden under that "BUSHEL"? One last question, Do my posts come up looking jumbled and spaced out , due to the fact I use a Mac computer or do my posts look neat and clean like I send them (anyone reading this ?) .....THANK YOU !!!!!!!! sorry if I seem a bit testy, I have a headache due to being on this thing till 0400 this am ! now I'm back again.......
