This note is from a subscriber of ours who lives in Taiwan. She is a MD, and also a mother, and cannot post directly to LACTNET due to address problems, so I am forwarding this for her. ********** Date: Mon, 20 Nov 95 14:30:54 CST X-Sender: [log in to unmask] (Unverified) To: [log in to unmask] (Kathleen Bruce) From: cch1@vghtc (CHEN CHAO-HUEI) Subject: to lacnet I want to make a common to the "food allergy" posted by Jennifer Coombs <[log in to unmask]> on Nov 19. Does she ever concern the possibility of"hyperlactose syndrome"? The baby might swallows most of the foremilk which contained much lactose and the lactose caused the gas within the baby's stomach and made the baby fussy. For this condition, encourge mother breastfeed with one breast at a time. I would like to suggest the mother, changing formula won't work( I tried that with my 1st child.), perhaps will do more harm if there is really a food allergy. Time will be the best medicine. I and other mothers who breastfeeding a fussy baby have the same answer. Try Dr Sear's wonderful book "The fussy baby". Good luck!
