The discussion of more appropriate names for infant formula brought to mind

an article I read (Anderson, et al, Am J Clin Nutr  35: 381-97, 1982) on
the
history of infant formulas.  The authors explain that "SMA" stands for
"synthetic milk adapted" (product name given only as historical reference,
not endorsement).  I think in this case, the facts of nomenclature speak
for
themselves. :)
