In the midst of preparations for my prelims, I have been reading over quite a bit on theory in historical archaeology lately. I have not, however, noticed a great deal of the theory being integrated into field reports and research designs other than a scattering here and there (with some exceptions of course). My question to the list then is this; what recent developments in theory for our discipline do you think actually have good potential to allow us greater understanding of the past? What works over the course of the development of the field in say the last 10 years or so have had the most impact? I just finished Deetz's (1993) Flowerdew Hundred book, and found it to be one of the most integrated examples of field work and theory I have seen in many years. What articles/books would you recommend as being the most influential to our field? And finally, how practical do you find it on a day to day basis to tie in CRM work with trends in theory appearing in the literature? Bryan Howard Dept. of Anth Texas A&M [log in to unmask]
