> >Don't you think that the co-sleeping issue is less of a SIDS (in the mind of >the public - a good excuse to make babies go into their own beds) concern and >more of a "this is a terrible habit" because "babies need to be independent" >and "parents need their freedom" (read: sex)? It is another way for parents >to withdraw from the child... One can then use SIDS as an excuse. Now, >notice the research that James McKenna did on co-sleeping hasn't hit the NY >Times advocating it (though there was a little tiny article on the benefits >of co-sleeping in the Women's section of the Sunday Chicago Tribune awhile >back). > >Jan, I sure do think that the point of including this reference was to support the status quo ideas that co sleeping is a bad idea, ie makes child dependent, invades parents "privacy" etc. Scare tactics? Perhaps. I would like to see copies of all research involved...I also think that I could benefit from a crash course in statistics, which I only GLANCED over in nursing school, did NOTHING with in college as a math major, and which I sorely NEED to know now to critically read studies. :-/ ********************************************************** Kathleen B.
