a Mr Borst snip..
I am reminded of the saying of Henry Thoreau:

"Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk."

I have seen the August invasion so many times, as to be a believer in that which is not seen but reckoned.

and my comments...
so I am guessing you have no data or anything beyond casual evidence to point to the 'varroa bomb' hypothesis? how would you even test such a hypothesis? since we have so many authorities pointing towards the existence of 'mite bomb' certainly it must be true? might oakum razor apply here... in that perhaps a simpler explanation might be worthy of consideration?

ps... most all of the absconding events I have witnessed have been due to ants and wax moth predation and for the small 'mating' boxes small hive beetles. any of these pest left unattended when you keep bees in some defined area in density can appear to explode on a beekeeper if they are not attentive to the problem.
