The June 2015 issue of AAP News (Vol 36, No 6) did have an article called "Breastfeeding: what to do about ankyloglossia, lip-tie" by Jennifer Thomas, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP and John E. McClay, M.D., FAAP.

Essentially it is just a review of the AHRQ study others have mentioned.

The authors conclude, "Evidence does support claims that maternal pain while breastfeeding is improved, but surgical intervention for other postulated problems caused by a tongue-tie is not evidence-based or, like lip-tie, has not been studied adequately."

So maybe this was the AAP connection the physicain mentioned in the original post was talking about?
