I agree with Bill's points completely. 

The bigger threat for almond growers is world competition. Australia and many other areas are planting almonds. 

As land prices rise and populations increase growers are pushed out. 
Once land is taxed as real estate instead of agriculture growers are pushed out. years ago California raisins were the crop to grow. Competition from the world makes growing raisins not profitable so vines are bull dozed out.

Change is the only thing you can count on in agriculture.
