I also split all hives coming out of almonds each year, yet have not seen this phenomenon. Could you please ask your grower(s) what they sprayed during bloom and let me know? Also, could you please freeze samples of the beebread and some of the dying bees? >In my opinion is a minor issue as the hives quickly recover. This appears to be the feeling of most almond pollinators.
