I find this very interesting Jeremy!  I also split all hives coming out of
almonds each year, yet have not seen this phenomenon.  Could you please ask
your grower(s) what they sprayed during bloom and let me know?  Also, could
you please freeze samples of the beebread and some of the dying bees?

This appears to be the feeling of most almond pollinators.  We note some
minor pesticide issues, but colonies quickly rebound.
