Hello from Israel!

I'm looking for a pollen-substitute recipe that does not include shortening, which isn't generally available here.

Also, shortening wouldn't work well because we need to supplement our bees' diet in late summer when it's very hot and the shortening will just melt.

From about mid-July to mid-August, there is no pollen at all in the area of our hives. And it's especially problematic because mid-September is one of the better times here to make queens. Rather than let the hives dwindle in the late summer, we'd like to strengthen them, leading up to queen-rearing time.

Does anyone have a proven recipe to share?

Thanks in advance,

Alison Epstein
