A good speaker would be Cheryl Hayashi discussing her research on spider
silk. See her TED Talk at www.ted.com/speakers/cheryl_hayashi.html. The
Google ad at the end of the talk is pretty good as well. It presents a
moving case study showing how research into old patents can lead to
affordable modern innovation.

There's also the science and art of Dr. David Goodsell at Scripp Research
Institute including his books *Bionanotechnology: Lessons from Nature*, and
the newer edition of his remarkable book *The Machinery of Life* (
http://mgl.scripps.edu/people/goodsell/).
