Hi Jimmy,

I place a frame with patch of brood and honey
in the bait box.

I'm not sure of the conditions in North Carolina,
but I would advise you wait till spring to perform
the extraction. Perhaps during dandelion bloom.
This late in the season, colonies are very populous,
defensive, too much honey comb to deal with,
and winter mortality is high for colonies
extracted in late season.

I happen to be doing an extraction tomorrow.
I generally do not do late extractions, but
this is an emergency, as contractors are
coming soon. These I will configure in
2 or 3 deeps, four or five frames in each deep
with follower boards at the ends and excess
void filled with leaves. Less stress for a
colony to 'move up', and should increase
the chances for successful wintering.

Best Wishes,
Joe Waggle
