We get energy from coal and uranium by using them to heat water and generate steam to turn generator turbines. In fact, I came to more easily understand nuclear power--and I think other folks do too--when I came to understand nuclear power plants are, on one hand, a refinement of steam power. It's a question of how efficiently--or cheaply-- water can be heated into steam. And it's a point often lost when nuclear power is taught through lessons focused entirely on the splitting of atoms. Along those lines of opening the "black box," but in this case, those "white volcano-shaped" buildings. __ JasonJayStevens JasonJayStevensStudio [log in to unmask] www.potterbelmar.org/jjss 536 Roosevelt Avenue San Antonio, Texas 78210 210.364.6305 On May 30, 2010, at 8:40 AM, Martin Weiss wrote: > ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology > Centers > Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related > institutions. > ********************************************************************** > ******* > > Peter > > No apologies necessary.
