Announcement Society for Historical Archaeology WEBSITE EDITOR Closes October 20, 2009 The Society for Historical Archaeology is seeking applications/proposals from highly motivated individuals to serve as Website Editor. This position will replace current Website Editor Dr. Kelly Dixon, who will be stepping down in January of 2010. The Website Editor is a critical position to the SHA and works closely with the Board of Directors and the other editors (journal, newsletter, co-publications); the Website Editor co-chairs the Newsletter and Website Editorial Advisory Committee with the SHA Newsletter Editor. The Website Editor serves a three-year term upon appointment by the President and approval of the Board of Directors. The new Website Editor will take office in January of 2010 at the SHA Annual Meeting at Amelia Island, Florida, and will serve until January of 2013. The Website Editor may be reappointed. The current Website Editor Position Summary and statement of Specific Responsibilities is available at: www.uwf.edu/wlees/Description.pdf <http://www.uwf.edu/wlees/Description.pdf> . The SHA Website Editor is responsible for coordination and oversight of publication of materials to the Website, www.sha.org <http://www.sha.org> . The Website is currently hosted at the University of Montana, with programming provided by a contract between the SHA and Spectral Fusion Design at the University of Montana (http://www.cas.umt.edu/sfdesigns/ <http://www.cas.umt.edu/sfdesigns/> ). The Website Editor can perform his/her duties from any location but must be prepared to work closely with Spectral Fusion and with the SHA Board of Directors. Familiarity with Web design software, and in particular Adobe Contribute (currently used by SHA), is essential for this position. The Website Editor attends all meetings of the SHA Board of Directors (at the annual meeting and one mid-year meeting usually in June), and is eligible for transportation and lodging reimbursement for these meetings. The Website Editor has a budget that is determined annually through the SHA budgeting process, which includes support for a (student) assistant. The Website Editor itself is a volunteer position that will require a significant commitment of time. While it may be possible to accomplish this job without institutional support the search committee feels that institutional support will be part of a successful application/proposal. Institutional support should include release time, and IT infrastructure sufficient to allow completion of Website tasks and communication with Spectral Fusion, fellow editors, committees, SHA membership, and the like. This will require broadband internet access, standard office software, and Website software utilized by SHA (Adobe Contribute). The search committee invites individuals or individuals and their institutions to submit an application/proposal for Website Editor. 1. Applications/Proposals must be received no later than 4:00 PM Central Standard Time on Tuesday October 20, 2009. Submit applications/proposals electronically to Dr. William B. Lees, Chair of the Website Editor Search Committee, at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]> . 2. The application/proposal must clearly identify the individual who is to be considered for the position of Website Editor, and must include: a. Statement of why you are interested in this position, and why you think you would be an effective Website Editor. b. Statement of 1) what you would like to accomplish within your first term (3 years) as Website Editor, and 2) what challenges/opportunities you think the SHA may face in the next three years regarding the Website. c. Statement of relevant education, training, and experience as related to this position. d. Curriculum vita, including at least three references that can comment on your ability to succeed in this position e. Statement of institutional support available, including the amount of time available to accomplish the duties of this position. f. As appropriate, a letter of commitment from a principal in the organization/institution that will be providing institutional support. 3. The SHA Website Editor must be a member of the Society for Historical Archaeology at all times during his/her tenure in this position.
