ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. ***************************************************************************** Hi all, We have recently embarked on creating a Facebook page for our center, a mid-sized natural history museum with extensive collections. Our Facebook presence is intended, in part, as a mechanism to reach out to and engage a new segment of the public. We hope to accomplish this with an array of content including video. In our archives we have video with content that could be considered sensitive (e.g. a graphic lecture by a Yale researcher on animal reproduction, an MLK poetry slam). Though we believe this content may help us achieve our outreach goals, we have two major concerns: 1) Can we post this type of content in a way (e.g. With disclaimers?) that won't offend the public 2) How do we defend the posting of this type of content among the ranks of those within the museum unfamiliar with Facebook, YouTube, etc... We wondered if a clear mission statement might help us with the latter. Any experience with or ideas for 1)? Anyone have a mission statement for their Facebook (or similar) presence that they'd be willing to share? Thanks in advance for any help.
