ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. ***************************************************************************** We've recently starting composting here at OMSI, and are currently prototyping a "sorting station." We found that when we had the garbage, recycling, and compost buckets next to each other, people weren't sorting properly, so we organized them into a 3 step process, and added a thin table in front of the bins for visitors to set their tray on while sorting. It seems to be working much better. So now, they approach and go down the line. Step 1: Recycle (bottles and cans); Step 2: Compost (with a list of compostables); Step 3: Trash (with a list of trash items). We also added 8 1/2 x 11" tri-fold tents to the tables, so that visitors start thinking about it before they get to the sorting station. I think it's so cool that museums are composting. Feel free to call if I can be of more help!
