You can't lose them all- in 1997 Colin Davis conducted the Vaughn
Williamss Sixth with the Boston Symphony -my local orchestra.  Incidentally
this week I attended the  BSO open rehearsal of the magnificent Shostakovich
Fourth Symphony- last played in Symphony Hall thirty years ago according
to Mark Elder, the guest conductor.  As Karl says, it needn't be by
obscure composers.
