One point that I would like to stress is the importance of IBCLCs to know
NORMAL - beyond 2 years - as well as how to deal with problems - going to
LLL meetings, meeting moms in support groups, meeting moms NOT having
troubles and seeing babies that are doing FINE is essential - if you ONLY
see the "abnormal" you then think no one can do it without you...and you
forget what the goal is! You get lost in the
"equipment/problem-solving/rescuer" mode.

Only after seeing lots of normal babies do I get to recognize quickly when a
baby is NOT normal (like the one that everyone said was fine, but I could
see was posturing strangely - sure enough - neurological damage). I may not
know how to fix the problems I identify - but I can at least "stick to my
guns" that more help is needed!
