We got the water bottles a couple of weeks ago as well, along with a Kleenex box and pads of paper with Similac written all over. There was also something about "organic" Similac. I think we also have tape measures with the Similac logo as well. They get thrown away right after we measure the baby's head. The Kleenex box will go soon when the tissues are gone and not too many people have taken the water bottles either, now that I think about it. Someone mentioned that water is difficult to drink out of them anyway. The pads of paper get used up as well. one of our peds said she would never go into a patkent room with a scrap pad with the Ross label on it. I said, "....you go, girl!" In all fairness to our nurses, I really don't think most of them even think about these things giving patients the wrong idea, nor do I think any of them would ever imagine that they were "marketing" formula for the company. Personally, I juts don't think that this is an importanr issue to any of my colleagues. We rarely see our rep and when we do, he is on and out. he also has been good to us as far as bringing extra volufeeds, lids or immunization books when we run out at an odd times. Our rep is hosting something at a local popular "bar." Do I think many (or any) will go? No, I don't. I realize this isn't right or ethical, but at the same time, I don't think the majority of nurses get into thinking this is cool or exciting. Nurses like to eat........so what? You eat, you leave, you go back to work. Then at least you have energy top help those mothers breastfeed. I just feel that some here get way more bent out of shape about this than necessary but that is your choice. I personally would rather spend my time with my patients and support their breastfeeding. The source of my dinner doesn't factor in to the overall picture. Like one of my colleagues said the other night when we were having this very discussion. She said, ".....it's his job. He has to make a living.......so what?"
