The husband of the pianist at the centre of a scandal that has
gripped the classical music world is a convicted criminal.

William Barrington-Coupe, who released dozens of CDs under his
wife's name which are now claimed by audio experts to be identical
to earlier recordings, served eight months in jail for tax
   evasion.

The 76-year-old has now stopped selling the discs he claimed
were made by Joyce Hatto, one of Britain's greatest pianists
when she died last year. Record companies are looking into claims
   their works were pirated.
