The note below was posted on the mailing list of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections... To which I will add, that I had some exchange with Richard. His label, like mine, was distributed by Albany. Richard was always interested in exploring the literature...I would send him broadcast recordings from my collection. He was generous with copies of his releases. While I did not know him personally, I admired what he was able to accomplish. Dear friends, Richard Kapp, a man dear and generous both to the music and the public radio worlds has just died on Sunday at his home in Danbury, Connecticut at the age of 69. He was conductor and founder of the Philharmonia Virtuosi, the owner of ESS.A.Y. Recordings, and a frequent presenter and vendor at AMPPR conferences. Some of the most enjoyable discs (to me) issued by the label in recent years include "Musical Evenings with the Captain" and "Roast Beef of Old England"--albums inspired by Patrick O'Brian's series of Master and Commander novels. His obituary is in today's New York Times at http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/06/arts/music/06kapp.html?_r=1&oref=slogin Thomas H. Pease Library of Congress Karl
