James Tobin mentioned: >I do not know of a twentieth century composer who wrote as many piano >sonatas as Prokofiev. Which brought up the interesting fact about the Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt, who lost 75% of his music in an 1980 fire: the only suriviving piano sonate of his, as far as I know, is #29. I've heard it played live in Norway--pretty interesting, if a bit unstructured. A Simax recording exists. I'm sure there are others who wrote more than Prokofiev, and I bet Karl Miller has a big list for us! Jeff Dunn [log in to unmask]
