A Mom called today with a puzzling problem. She is nursing her 11 month old and for the past 3 weeks has had intermittent periods of sharp one sided breast pain which she explains as "deep breast pain, it feels like something exploding, and is in various in quadrants and may last for a couple of hours to a few minutes." No history of yeast, nipple soreness or abrasions or cracks, no illnesses, no meds, no teething or biting problems, no color changes in the nipple or the breast during this time. No other health problems, no neuralgia. She has tried heat, cold, changing positions, with no positive changes. That side is usually fuller and sometimes she gets plugged ducts. She has had a physician exam. Any ideas?
