Jennifer and all... When I face the same type of situations you mention in your post, I remind myself that "When a Mother is born, all of her self esteem issues come flying up in her face". (my quote) It's as if we get a peek at her very private feelings about herself. IMO, your support and encouragement of her was the single best thing we can offer any Mother. Some women work to breastfeed from birth and others will try breastfeeding when they are away from the Medical arena, where all eyes are on her and her "performance". I tell women it's easier to nurse through engorgement than to suffer through it without nursing. Then I give them a shield to help the baby put her baby to breast at home. All of us dedicated, compassionate breastfeeding helpers are cheerleaders...always saying "Go Team Go" despite a situation that looks hopeless. Luckily, we never know the outcome in advance.
