In this situation I would probably get mom pumping after feedings. I would do a pre and post feed weight but I would also supplement with either EBM if available or ABM at the breast with a supplemental nurser. We use a feeding tube and syringe here. Since mom would be pumping after feedings I would suggest mom continue to supplement at the breast with whatever she pumped until the baby started to gain. Sometimes babies look like they are doing everything right but they really aren't transferring milk as well as it appears. I have found that supplementing them at the breast often corrects this. Also, the baby may have an elevated birth weight from intervention during delivery, depending on what IV fluids and meds mom was given during labor... still isn't good for a baby to lose that much body weight. I bet that things turn around in the next 24 hours as her milk is in more and more. These are just thoughts off the top of my head given that info... *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
