While I thought this was really interesting, it was comparing apples to oranges. Undeveloped or underdeveloped countries to industrialized countries. Isn't the US still #28 among Industrialized Countries in birth stats: infant and maternal mortality and morbidity? THIS IS APPALLING. The US is the richest country in the world. We should be using that money to save people's lives with technology when technology is necessary, not line the pockets of technology companies by using the technology on everyone! The article notes: "Rates higher than 15 percent indicate inappropriate use of the procedure." We (USA) have a c-section rate approaching 30%. I've heard no one argue that we should get rid of c-sections all together. Surely it's moderation, as in most things, that is the answer, not MORE INTERVENTIONS.
