I love conversations such as these that get the brain moving! I am a L&D nurse as well as an IBCLC at the hospital where I work. I do have to say I do see more " wet babies" after c/sections and after rapid vaginal births. In either situation, the baby doesn't have much time between delivery of the head and of the chest. I liken it to being shot out of a cannon. Most MD's at c/sections deliver head and chest together so babies are getting those big cries before they have had their passages cleared out. I am very fortunate to work in a facility where the staff work very hard to get those babies to breast as soon as possible. I also like the suggestion of hand expressing right from the beginning. My practice beliefs have grown from the suggestions and knowledge shared on this site and I thank all of you for these great gifts you have.
