Fellow lactnetters,
As many of you know, I am an IBCLC and pediatric nurse practitioner
finishing my PhD at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. My dissertation is
using phenomenological interviews to understand mothers who elect not to
breastfeed- my idea is that until we fully understand the context of their
lives and the way in which they experience their breasts, we cannot make
the cultural changes to dramatically improve rates of initiation (this has
been raised in several recent threads, I was happy to see!) I'm really
interested in the mothers (I'm sure you've seen them before), who have
no "reason" not to breastfeed, but tell you it's just not for them...the
frustration led to my question! I need a few more interviews and hoped you
could help me identify mothers in this situation living in the metro
Atlanta area. The goal obviously is NOT to change their minds, I would just
be listening, recording, and eventually analyzing what they have to say. I
appreciate your consideration of this research, and will be glad to discuss
more about it with you if you'd like to!
Maeve Howett, RN, IBCLC, CPNP
