Hi, Annette: I have had my plate LACTATE for at least 15 years and have gotten many positive comments on it. My plate holder says "Breastfed is bestfed". The one that I remember the most clearly is the time I was at a Dairy Queen (a drive-up ice cream shop popular in the Midwest US) and was standing at the window waiting for my order with my car parked in the space right in front of the window when a group of teen-age girls hesitantly asked me what "lactate" meant. When I explained it to them, they looked a little taken aback, then said "Cool". I found it amusingly ironic that this conversation took place at a cow's milk product store. My 3 girls have literally grown up on mommilk and around mommilk so have never been embarrassed by what I do for a living. In fact, my 23 year-old OT doctoral student is now running into people she says know me at professional conferences she attends. Unfortunately, she told me the other day that it was too bad I'm "so old" because she would like to go into practice with me when she graduates in May. I don't think she has anything to worry about - I'm sure I will be working until the day I die.
