James Tobin writes:

>Sometimes music directors program interesting and innovative seasons,
>only to have their efforts sabotaged--as I see it--by the orchestra's
>publicity departments which advertise only the warhorses--and in a trite
>manner--while ignoring the premieres and rarities.

A related practice which drives me up the nearesr wall; WCRB, which is
classical music on tranquilizer ("tracks to relax") often gives public
service announcements of BSO concerts, omitting anything which might
upset their sensitive listeners. So a concert featuring Beethoven and
Bartok is announced as "The BSO plays Beethoven this Thursday".
