ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions. ***************************************************************************** Ever have one of those times when you can do a demonstration - but have no idea why? I'm in just such a situation. But based on my experiences at the ASTC conferences, I am certain that some of you can help me, for our science subject today is: Beer. The experiment is simple: take an open but full (or mostly so) bottle of beer. Then use the bottom of a second bottle to moderately tap bottle #1 on top of its mouth. Fwoosh! (This, I believe, constitutes alcohol abuse.) Easy enough to do, but what the heck makes this occur? The kicker is, I know a lot of ways to make a huge mess with soda (toying with nucleation, pressure, temperature...)(and btw, I tried the beer trick with IBC root beer - nothing happened) yet I can't figure how any of those could come into play with such a casual rap on the bottle. Help me, suds-guzzling cohorts! I kinda miss the Budweiser Ferret, Jonah Cohen Outreach & Public Programs Manager Science Center of Connecticut "Scalia finished his memo by writing 'If a Supreme Court justice can be bought so cheaply, this country is in deeper trouble than I thought.' In a related story, this country is in deeper trouble than Scalia thought." -The Daily Show ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
