Dear Lactnetters, Thanks to everyone who replied. This mother and I both appreciate it. I did show this mother what you suggested Winnie re the sissor hold and it helped somewhat. What really seemed to do the trick with this couple was what I think Jean suggested, to pump both breasts fully and then go to 6 hours on 1 breast before switching to the next breast. This mother did that and then stretched it to 8 hours and voila, no problems. When she went back to 1 breast at each feeding, she noticed it happening again and she quickly stretched the time out again and she is now able to "go with the flow", so to speak :-) The last wt checks showed a 2.9oz gain in 3 days and baby is very contented with this way of nursing, although she does seem to get fussy if it doesn't flow fast enough now. She seems to have gotten used to a fast flow (of course the way she got used to it was killing mom) and now if the flow isn't fast enough to suit her, she seems to get irritated. In any case, mom can deal with it now. So thanks again, Cindi Swisher, RN, IBCLC Colorado Springs, CO *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
