World Premiere of Steven R. Gerber's Chaconne and Fugue for Viola and C ello on April 20 - Concert at Baltimore's Maryland College Institute of Art The World Premiere of Steven R. Gerber's Chaconne and Fugue for Viola and Cello will be featured in a concert on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, 8 PM at the Maryland Institute College of Art, 1300 Mount Royal Avenue in Baltimore. Violist Karin Brown, member of the Baltimore Symphony and Peabody faculty= member cellist Daniel Levitov will present the World Premiere performanc= e of Chaconne and Fugue and will be joined by Baltimore Symphony Orchestr= a musicians violinist Ellen Orner, principal flutist Emily Skala and prin= cipal oboist Katherine Needleman for an evening of new classical music as= the capstone to this year's Concert Lab residency at MICA, in which th= ey worked with students in experimental animation, painting, and drawing to explore the connections between music and visual arts. Gerber's music has gained international attention as a result= of two recent CD releases (on Chandos and KOCH) featuring several of his= major orchestral works, including the Symphony No. 1. Of the Symphony No. 1, Evening Moscow wrote, 'Ge= rber could serve as an example of American musical professionalism ...he stands out with the highest of temperaments and musical taste.'
