I am in contact with an experienced nursing mother who is very concerned about this (mandatory formula at 40 instead of allowing colostrum a chance), as our local hospital has the same protocol. She is a gestational diabetic in early pregnancy, and is still nursing her two year old, though he is currently weaning. She is wondering if she expressed some milk and froze it, then took it to the hospital when the baby was born if she'd be allowed to use that instead of formula if they require supplementation. She is also thinking of buying a nursing supplementer just in case her babe is hypoglycemic in order to avoid that early bottle. Before we go the rounds with the local authorities, have any of you done anything like this? How did it go over? Got any other ideas to avoid formula and bottles, if the baby is hypoglycemic?
