I know the original post was some time ago (I am just back from vacation and catching up htrough the Archives-so glad they can now be viewed chronologically!!!) This may have been said already, but didn't want to let the question pass and be forgotten before I get through all them. Sorry if this is repetitive! Number one method for saving one's back when helping a mom in the hospital: RAISE THE BED!!! I usually don't think about this until after my back begins to complain. Just don't forget to lower it again before you leave the mom! I frequently find myself running from one side of the bed to the other to either get a good view of what baby is doing at the breast or to help the mom in a way that she can easily duplicate what I'm doing. I often think it would be easier if I could be suspended directly over the mom (TIC).
