I tend to agree that there is an observed problem with babies having colic and some relationship to consumption of iron supplements by either baby, mom, or both. I can't get into the Cochrane Library from home, so I just started strolling through Google. Up front, I found this AAP Policy statement which denies any connection between iron fortified formulas & infant colic. It says "breast is best" for healthy babies, the low iron in HM is more bioavailable, but exclusively BFd infants are more at risk for iron deficiency... http://www.aap.org/policy/RE9865.html Will continue to look - especially for maternal supplementation & effect on baby. --- Phyllis Adamson, IBCLC, RLC --- Glendale, AZ, USA --- [log in to unmask] --- Scanned by Norton AntiVirus with auto-updates *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
