Karen: The greenish nectar you talk about comes from the sumacs, about which you had mentioned abundant and ready to pop in your neck of the woods. In Shawnee, OK, sumacs are now 1/3 in bloom, as well. Incidentally, sumac in Oklahoma seems to replace/substitute basswood in the northeast and sourwood in the southeast. Might as well be happy with what we got. Though I live in zone 7, I am "fixin" to plant a few basswoods on my acrage next year. Do any of you tree experts know a good nursery for the best variety for the south? Of course, I do have plenty of vitex now blooming.
