As a hospital LC I know that our team, of 4, verbalizes to moms with problems that they can follow up with us (3 visits for 100.00) OR see a private LC in the area. We make sure that they have resources available to them through their discharge booklets on baby care and breastfeeding. We do not have a list of specific LCs in the community but LLL phone number and the 800 Medela number is listed in their for them. We have probably all slipped some numbers to people who want a home visit. We have a couple of local LCs and I know we have written their business numbers down and said they can always call them vs us. We want them to get help from where ever they possibly can. We encourage support groups for those who just can't seem to pay. At least we have four of those a month. We can at least offer a little support and help. All of our NICU moms get one free visit to our Lactation Center. So we truly try to let them know that in the hospital is not IT. I have told of many babies who took a long while to learn to nurse, etc. Mom needs support with her supply while we work with the issues. Pam in S.
