CMV from mother's own expressed breastmilk has caused both morbidity and
mortality in extremely preterm infants. Infants get both the virus and the
antibody, but the extremely immature immune system appears to still have
problem containing the infection. That is one of the reasons neonatologists
are so afraid of using "fresh" (not previously frozen) human milk.
