Thank you all who responsded to my post about the mom who has cracked nipples while pregnant, that clear up with breastfeeding. all the information was very helpful. i received several responses that suggested yeast, although i believe this would get worse with lactation, yet her nipples heal up after about one week of breastfeeding. . . and she had already been seen by a dermatologist and OB so i don't think it is yeast. my guess is it is somehow hormonal, as she does not have particularly sensitive skin, nor is she fair skinned and has no history of any skin problems, including any yeast infections of any kind. no eczema, no psorisis. i will be back in my office on monday and will try to find out if the soothies helped. (she did not contact me while pregnant, i saw her after the birth of her 3rd child.) i tried to get in touch with her earlier this week but as she has three children, i am not surprised she did not answer her phone!! if i get any 'answer' to this, i will let you all know. none of this has stopped her from breastfeeding, but she did look worn down by the pain. thanks again to all who wrote. i really appreciate it!
