I just wanted to comment that I also had this situation when I was
breastfeeding. Letdown was a very painful, stinging sensation. It was
brief, and then everything seemed fine, though the initial flow of milk
was very fast, causing lots of gulping and sputtering for my babies. I
figured it was just me, never talked to my OB about it, and just lived
with it because everything else seemed to be fine. Baby and I never had
thrush.

Maybe this is an unfortunate normal variation for some of us?
