There's a concerto by the N. Irish composer Ian Wilson called 'Who's afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue?' for alto saxophone, which I like. It hasn't been recorded yet, though it's sometimes broadcast by the BBC. The composer has a website at http://www.ianwilson.org.uk. There is lots of saxophone in the score of _Lulu_ and this is my excuse to encourage anyone who is within reach of the current English National Opera production to see it (as I did last week). Unfortunately the ENO audience around me were rather too prone to talking during those wonderful orchestral interludes between the scenes. Still, the complaint that people talk during some of the best bits of operas is as old as opera. The saxophone also features strongly in Berg's concert aria _Der Wein_ and less prominently in his Violin Concerto.
